Corner of Laurier and Brebeuf |
There is nothing posted to advise users whether this is a temporary measure or a permanent change nor is there any mention of the work on the city's website. However, there are a couple of blurbs in the local French media:

Velo Quebec's website has no mention of this change on their 'Route Verte' webpage nor is it shown on Google Maps as it is too recent.
While it is true that this change should alleviate some of the conflict between pedestrians and cyclists at the corner of Laurier and Brebeuf, the new path on Brebeuf and Saint-Gregoire will disappear on November 15th along with the rest of the bike lanes/paths in the city.
At the north end of the park, the relocated path diverts back into the park for a short stretch and then exits back out at Christophe-Colombe.
This was probably done to avoid conflict between cars and bicycles at the intersection, but I doubt that most cyclists will follow this diversion when they can just follow the road.
Perhaps city planners should take one more step and reconfigure the Saint-Gregoire/Christophe Colombe 'T' intersection to accommodate the more natural direct path and remove the senseless loop that still exists in the park?
