The first foreign-going vessel into the Seaway, the Avonborg, heads towards Long Point and the Upper Lakes after clearing the Welland Canal. She is carrying an increasingly common cargo of windmill parts. The shorelines of the Great Lakes are becoming littered with this alternate form of energy.
The line of white on the horizon is the ice edge of the remainder of Lake Erie's ice conveniently blown away from Port Colborne for the spring opening of the Seaway. Unfortunately, some ice still lingers in the shallows hindering the start of the buoy commissioning season.
